Puppy training

Puppy basics, before the habits stick

Teeth on everything, zoomies at midnight, a leash that's mostly a chew toy. Your puppy moves in with our crew for 4, 6 or 11 weeks and works on the basics every day. Then we teach you everything they learned, so it sticks at home.

Sound familiar?

Cute. Also eating your couch.

Right now

Needle teeth on hands, shoes and cords. Jumping on everyone who walks in. Barking at nothing, and zoomies at the worst possible moment.

What you've tried

Puppy videos, a class or two, treats in every pocket. It works for a day, and then they're on to the next bad idea.

What you want

A puppy who walks nicely, settles down and says hi without jumping, before puppy habits grow into a grown dog's habits.

How we'd help

Board and train, at a puppy's pace

Good habits go in early, before the bad ones get a head start, with a crew that knows when to push and when a pup has had enough.

We usually start at 16 weeks. Younger is fine once they've had their shots. Puppy training works a little differently from training a grown dog, and we'll walk you through how on the call.

What every stay works on

  • Walk politely on leash
  • Sit, Down and Stay on the first cue
  • Wait at doors
  • Relax on "Place"
  • Greeting manners, no more launch-pad jumps

Longer stays take it further: field trips to parks and Home Depot and the start of off-leash cues at 6 weeks, then beaches, farmers markets and off-leash reliability at 11.

Which stay?

4-Week Foundations$3,950

The basics, fast: the walk, the door, the greeting.

6-Week Freedom Builder$5,900

Will they listen to me, too?

We train your dog. Then we train you.

01

Pickup day is a lesson

A full hour where you run your dog through everything they learned while we coach you. You leave knowing exactly what to ask for and how.

02

Follow-ups that never expire

2, 3 or 5 follow-up sessions here at our place, depending on your stay. Use them the week after pickup or months later, whenever you want a tune-up.

03

5 to 10 minutes a day

That's all we ask when your dog first comes home. We do the heavy lifting during the stay and show you exactly what to practice. A few minutes a day keeps it going.

How we train

Same goofball. Better manners.

Plenty of trainers won't tell you how they train. Here's exactly how we do it: every plan is built around your dog's quirks, your schedule and your goals.

Rewards come first

Every dog starts with reward-based training: food, toys, praise and play. It's how we teach every new skill.

You decide the rest

Some dogs need more than rewards. If yours does, and only with your OK, we use the gentlest option that works, which can include leash corrections or an e-collar. You get a full walkthrough first, on the phone or when you arrive. Want reward-only training? Then that's what your dog gets.

What we never do

  • Hit or kick
  • Yell or intimidate
  • Pin a dog down ("alpha rolls")
  • Hang a dog by the leash

We won't use corrections or an e-collar on a scared or anxious dog, a young puppy, or a dog that hasn't learned what we're asking yet, even if you ask us to. Those dogs stick with rewards.

Their words, not ours

Puppies, before and after

He still has his personality/quirks but now has manners!

"We were nervous about our puppy losing his quirks/personality while he was training, but it was far from that. He still has his personality/quirks but now has manners! The trainers learned his personality and made a plan that would work best for our puppy!"

the puppy I got back was totally transformed.

"I left my malinois pup with him for a month of board and train, the puppy I got back was totally transformed.… Raising a puppy by yourself is no easy task and with Davins help and the foundation he laid with my puppy, I now don’t struggle like I used to"

Puppy questions

Didn't see yours? Text "DOGGO" to (760) 400-6704 and ask away. We'll text you back, no phone call needed.

How young can my puppy start?

Usually at 16 weeks. Younger pups are welcome once they've had their shots. Puppy training works a little differently from adult training, and we'll explain how on the call.

How much is puppy board and train?

$3,950 for 4 weeks, $5,900 for 6 weeks or $10,650 for 11 weeks. Payment plans are available on every program, subject to approval.

Will my puppy still be my puppy?

Same goofball, better manners. Every plan is built around your puppy's quirks, your schedule and your goals.

Can I visit?

Once during a 4- or 6-week stay, twice during 11 weeks. It's a visit, not a lesson: training together mid-stay slows your puppy's progress.
