Reactive or aggressive dogs

Walk past other dogs without the meltdown

Barking, lunging, crossing the street three times on one walk. Maybe a bite, or a close call you never want repeated. We work with a lot of reactive and aggressive dogs. Yours trains with our crew every day for 4, 6 or 11 weeks, and then we teach you to handle those moments yourself.

Sound familiar?

You're not the only one crossing the street

Right now

Hackles up, barking, lunging at the end of the leash. You walk at 6am or 10pm to dodge other dogs, and you scan every corner.

What you've tried

Classes, YouTube, another trainer. Maybe it helped for a week. Maybe rehoming has even crossed your mind.

What you want

A walk past another dog with your dog's attention still on you. Friends over without shutting the dog in the bedroom. A dog you can trust.

How we'd help

Calm first, then closer

Lots of our board and train dogs start out reactive. They practice around other dogs, mostly our own, in small steps: far enough away that they stay calm, and closer only as they're ready, so they never get to the barking-and-lunging point.

Then we teach you to handle those moments yourself, because that's what makes it last at home.

How we keep everyone safe

  • Their own area. Dogs with aggression live in their own separate area, and dogs never play off-leash together.
  • Practice at a distance. They practice around other dogs mostly with our own, and around client dogs only from a distance, with a fence between them.
  • We plan for it. Our rule around here: if something can go wrong, it will, so we plan for it.
  • A vet next door. Kritter Kamp, an emergency and general vet, is our next-door neighbor.

Has your dog bitten someone? No judgment, we work with dogs like that. Tell us everything on the call, including any bites, and we'll tell you honestly whether board and train is the right fit.

More than half of our families come from Orange County and Los Angeles. Board and train is built for that: you make the trip at drop-off and again at pickup. See everything about a stay »

Will they listen to me, too?

We train your dog. Then we train you.

01

Pickup day is a lesson

A full hour where you run your dog through everything they learned while we coach you. You leave knowing exactly what to ask for and how.

02

Follow-ups that never expire

2, 3 or 5 follow-up sessions here at our place, depending on your stay. Use them the week after pickup or months later, whenever you want a tune-up.

03

5 to 10 minutes a day

That's all we ask when your dog first comes home. We do the heavy lifting during the stay and show you exactly what to practice. A few minutes a day keeps it going.

How we train

Same goofball. Better manners.

Plenty of trainers won't tell you how they train. Here's exactly how we do it: every plan is built around your dog's quirks, your schedule and your goals.

Rewards come first

Every dog starts with reward-based training: food, toys, praise and play. It's how we teach every new skill.

You decide the rest

Some dogs need more than rewards. If yours does, and only with your OK, we use the gentlest option that works, which can include leash corrections or an e-collar. You get a full walkthrough first, on the phone or when you arrive. Want reward-only training? Then that's what your dog gets.

What we never do

  • Hit or kick
  • Yell or intimidate
  • Pin a dog down ("alpha rolls")
  • Hang a dog by the leash

We won't use corrections or an e-collar on a scared or anxious dog, a young puppy, or a dog that hasn't learned what we're asking yet, even if you ask us to. Those dogs stick with rewards.

Their words, not ours

Owners who've been where you are

When we picked him up it was night and day difference.

"I have a Husky named Simba and he was extremely aggressive to other dogs and stubborn! I had tried multiple different trainers and training techniques. EZ Pups was my last resort.… When we picked him up it was night and day difference. He was a new dog! We can now take him out in public and he loves make new friends."

He was no longer reactive to people or dogs, he was even able to play with them!

"He was reactive to dog and people even if they were far away, wouldn't respond to commands outside our home and lunged at any dog walking by.… He was no longer reactive to people or dogs, he was even able to play with them! He walks beautifully on leash and follows his commands in most situations he is in with no problem."

Thank you all so much for making Molly be able to stay a part of our family.

"We have a rescue Mal that would bite my husband and was VERY AGGRESSIVE with other people. She is still a Mal at heart but has calmed down ALOT, thanks to this team. Thank you all so much for making Molly be able to stay a part of our family."

My dog has bitten someone. Will you still work with them?

Yes. No judgment, we work with dogs like that, and board and train costs the same as for any other dog. Tell us everything on the call, including any bites, and we'll tell you honestly whether board and train is the right fit.

Will my dog be around aggressive dogs?

Never up close. Dogs with aggression live in their own separate area, and dogs never play off-leash together. When they're learning to be around other dogs, they mostly practice with our own. If they ever work near yours, it's from a distance with a fence between them, and we'd never put your dog anywhere they could get scared.

Do you use corrections or an e-collar?

Every dog starts with rewards. Anything more, which can include leash corrections or an e-collar, happens only with your OK, after a full walkthrough, and it's the gentlest option that works. Want reward-only training? Then that's what your dog gets. And we won't use them on a scared or anxious dog, a young puppy, or a dog that hasn't learned what we're asking yet, even if you ask us to.

Do you guarantee results?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. Dogs aren't machines, and every dog moves at their own pace, so not every dog reaches every goal by the end of their stay. We do as much as we can with the time we have and the dog in front of us. What you can count on: training every day, updates you can see, a handoff lesson where you learn it all, and follow-ups to keep it going.
